projects | riverside cabin

This evocative cabin, part of a larger site plan, fronts a half-mile long bend of the Bitterroot River on range land once famously crossed by the Nez Perce tribe in their flight.

Resting lightly in a small clearing of native chokeberry, alders, and aspen, the deceptively simple structure is carefully detailed and crafted as might be expected from an earlier era. Intentionally modest in size, it is wrapped in operable windows that expand its occupants experience outward, connecting them to the adjacent river, tree canopies, and views of the mountains beyond. Designed for seasonal use, it is elevated above the flood plain, and is paired with an ancillary storage structure to keep it clutter-free.

It is finished entirely from locally milled ponderosa pine, and is completely free of drywall or synthetic materials.
